Lake Windermere
Steamboats depart from Lakeside, just a few miles away, and allow you to jump on and off as you explore the full length of England’s largest lake. Fell Foot park, two miles down the road, has rowing boats, canoes and paddle boards for hire plus picnic areas and one of the country’s most scenic Parkruns. Grizedale Forest has bike hire and Go Ape. Cartmel Valley Studios is surrounded by some of the country’s most interesting stately homes: Holker Hall, Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle plus, on a slightly smaller scale, Beatrix Potter’s Lake District home: Hill Top at Far Sawrey.
Cartmel Village
Head down the valley and the historic village of Cartmel is a honey-pot of history and culinary experiences, with its very own race course – Cartmel Races take place throughout the summer from late May to August. L’Enclume and Rogan and Co, in Cartmel, are two of the top Simon Rogan Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK, and no one can visit Cartmel without sampling its famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding! Cartmel Priory is the village’s centre-piece: an historic 800 year old church.
High Newton
Heft at High Newton, our very own Michelin-starred restaurant, is just a 10 minute walk from the studios. There are many lovely walks from the doorstep, one of which is just up the hill behind Cartmel Valley Studios: two reservoirs with 360 degree views of the lakeland fells and out across Morecambe Bay, one is also well stocked for fly fishing and the other is perfect dogs to swim in!
